AMID THE CRATIONS OF ISSEY MIYAKE

There was a time when the worlds of fashion and art each walked their separate paths. In 1982, when the image of a model wearing a black dress appeared on the cover of "Artforum" for the very first time, this boundary was broken. The dress in question, inspired by Samurai armor, symbolically represented a warrior challenging the cliche's of fashion - as if fashion, by means of this dress, was finally ready to enter new territory. The designer of this drees was none other that Issey Miyake, kicking of the beginning of a closer relationship between fashion and art. Clothing began to be featured in museums, art galleries, magazines and events, creating a discourse which opened up completely new paths, both in the world of fashion and in the world of art.
